Today was a memorable day for Greenville Bowling! Our Ladywave bowlers traveled to the sectionals tournament in Kettering today. 26 girls teams were bowling in the tournament and the top 10 teams and top 10 individuals on a non-qualifying team advanced to districts. Our bowlers came out of the gate with a strong performance, ending up in 9th place after game 1. They improved in game 2 and moved up to 8th place. The girls fell off a little bit in game 3, but it was good enough to stay in 9th place.

The baker games usually present a challenge for the girls and started off a little shaky, but quickly got things figured out. The first three games were 104-151-124. This was good enough to keep them in 9th. The competition got pretty tough and the girls knew they had to dial it up a bit to stay in the qualifying spot. They came out and out-bowled their competing team in the last 3 bakers 157-132-142. This was enough to give them a 20 pin lead over 10th place and solidify their 9th place finish.

As the girls were waiting to hear this announcement, we weren't sure if someone behind us had a big game and were pushing us out of the qualifying spot. Anxious energy was felt all through the crowd. Then the announcement came that the 8th-12th spots were exceptionally close. They started reading the results... 1st place goes to... 2nd place goes to... all the way down to 7th. Then the tournament director announces "... and this is where the scores get really tight. 8th place with a score of 3,009 goes to Tecumseh. 9th place with a score of 3,002... GREENVILLE!" GREENVILLE GIRLS HAVE QUALIFIED AS A TEAM FOR THE DISTRICT EVENT!!!! The cheers were loud and high five's were flying!

This is the first time in 12 years that the girls team has qualified for districts as a team. We're exceptionally proud of the girls and their coach Gary Garland. Several games this year, they lost by less than 10 pins and had extremely close matches. It was fantastic to see the girls show that they're a much better team than the season record reflects and get the recognition for that. The girls will bowl in the district tournament at Beaver-Vu lanes on Thursday, February 26th. If you see them around, be sure to congratulate the team:

Coach: Gary Garland
Players: Addy Arnett, Marissa Boney, Karstyn Davidson, Bailey Enicks, Haylee Fisher, Alyssa Hadden, Camryn Perry and Chelsea Smith.
